Session 1 Monday 9th January 2012

Hi, we are a Year 10 business group from Venerable Bede. We are doing a campaign to try and get more students to walk to school.
Chloe and Naomi
We all took turns to introduce ourselves and to say if we walked to school or not and say something interesting that has happened on our way to school.
Jess and Amy
As a group we wrote five rules we wished to follow. We did this as a team and decided on these five;
This as a group went well and we worked great to choose these!
Bridie and Daniel
The photography session for our team photo was quite entertaining, all of us as a team having a laugh with the position of the photos.

Session 2 Monday 16th January 2012

Today we chose the team photo. We settled on three photos by voting in a tally chart. the team photos are above.
Arran and Michael
In our groups we presented our results [from the Tyne and Wear school travel survey]. As a team we saw the problems and discussed how we could change it. We then narrowed it down.
(we'll put some pics of our spreadsheets and graphs up here soon)
Bridie and Daniel
We had a vote to see who we are going to aim our campaign to. The results found that we are doing it with Year 7 and Year 8.
Katelin and Conno

We wrote post-its about why people don't walk to school. Some of the reasons we thought of were because they were 'lazy', 'injured', 'didn't want to', 'cold weather', 'mam said no' and 'get a lift'.
Amy and Jess
We are going to do another survey, to find out why the year 7s and 8s say they don't walk to school. The people that handed in their photograph consent forms got given pedometers and everyone received sweets from Mrs. Cummings!
Naomi and Chloe
Session 3 Monday 23rd January
Today we created portraits of the different people who might be affected by our campaign, and thought about the things that are important to them, and how we can get them to help make the campaign a success.

We did an online survey of year 7 & 8s. Why dont they walk? Here are some of the results.

Monday 6th February
We created a 3d model of school, showing some of the transport issues on the streets around it.

HALF TERM
Monday 20th February
We decided to run a walking challenge for year sevens. They will get a ticket which we will stamp each morning they walk to school. If they get three stamps in a week, they will get an early lunch on Friday, and be entered into a prize draw for their form, to win a £10 voucher.
Monday 27th February
Decisions.....

We had a meeting with the head to discuss our plans and get permission for our assembly, letter to parents and school gate stamping sessions. She said yes!
Monday 5th March
We decided on a rota for who would be at the gates on the morning.
we created a 'ticket' for each year seven student, and got hold of some 'Walk to School' ink stampers.

And badges to give out (not the One Direction ones)
We sorted out an early lunch on the Friday with the caterers.
We wrote a letter to parents.
We told the year 7s all about it in a worship.
We arrived early to stamp peoples' cards.

...and waited to see how many people turned up on friday for an early lunch, and to enter the prize draw...
Monday 16th April
During the week of 'Walking to School' the ink stamping went down really well. It was a huge success, with year 7s and year 8s keen to get their tickets stamped every morning. They were very enthusiastic about the badges too.
On Friday at lunchtime, year 7s and year 8s rushed towards the hall. It was hectic but we kept them under control. Roughly 107 out of 276 people walked on all four days and went to dinner early, a success rate of 46%.
We have decided to give one person from each form a prize. This will make fourteen winners, as each year has seven form groups.
Today we discussed our own personal contributions ot the campaign. Different people contributed different things to the team. Our teamwork made the campaign stronger. Here is a list of some of the contributions we made:

This is almost the end of our campaign. If year sevens and year eights fill in an extra online survey, we'll find out how many people knew about our campaign, and how many changed their behaviour because of it.
We also need to do the prize draws and give out the shopping vouchers ot the winners from each from group. We'll do this very soon!
Note from Sam (facilitator)
The group were a pleasure to work with, full of ideas and very positive about the campaign. I wish them every success with their business studies GCSE. The project couldnt have happened without the help and support of many members of staff at Venerable Bede, including Miss Hill, Mrs Cummings, Mr Anderson, Mr Bland, Mr Irvine and Mr Walton, plus the catering staff who changed their schedule for the day. Thanks to you all!
