March 2011

Well we've had two meetings already and they've gone really well. After we'd met Sarah and introduced ourselves, we played a game to warm up our brains. We hada stack of beermats and had to think of as many uses for them as possible. This started off with the obvious, like a mat to stand your drink on, but then we came up more unusual ideas such as using several together to make a miniature house for insects or using them as visors to attach to a pir of glasses to protect your eyes from the sun. The game helped us get our brains thinking creatively so when we started to think about all the pros and cons of walking to school it was much easier.

We decided on how we'd like to run our campaign. We decided that one of the best things we could do, would be to develop a workshop event for all the Year 6s in our feeder primary schools, to make sure when they start school in September they are keen, happy and confident to walk to school. So here's what we will do:

Create a powerpoint to be delivered by one of us in role as a doctor (complete with white coat and stethoscope) to offer very informative information about why it is important to walk to school in terms of the benefits to our helathPerform a rap about why it's cool to walk to school. Two of us will perform the rap but everyone will waer graffiti-style t-shirts, designed and made by us with slogans that promote walking to schoolPlay 'walk' bingo, where every word on the bingo cards are the word 'walk' in different languagesRun a design competition with every pupil to design their own t-shirts to promote walkingGet everyone coming up with their own verses for a rap about walking to schoolRun an exerecise activity where everyone can monitor and feel the effects of exercise on their bodies

..........................

We spent our next session making our t-shirts and it took the whole session to layout the background, paint it, add the design and stencil the slogans. They look brilliant (we'll add some pictures of us wearing them once they're dry) and next time we'll really need to concentrate on developing the rest of the work for our workshops.
