Over the years, we have held a range of exciting events on different themes, all aimed at encouraging more children and families to walk to school. Each year, we hold high profile events and campaigns as part of Walk to School Week and International Walk to School Month. Past themes have linked to health improvement, helping the environment and encouraging socialising and road safety on the walk to school. Find out more below.

Schools across the country took part in walking relays with walk to school mascot, Strider! Read highlights from Walk to School Month 2010.
The theme was Walk Your Way, focusing on wayfinding, independent travel and confidence.
In 2009, the theme was 'Count me in'. The focus was on measuring physical activity and demonstrating how easy it is to reach the recommended daily hour of moderate physical activity if you walk to school.
Walk’n’Talk – (sociability)
Resources for this year encouraged children to Power Up! with energy by walking to school. The theme focused on health, specifically the growing problem of childhood obesity.
Sound Detectives - what do you hear on your walk to school?
Street Ranger - your streets need you! This theme was all about cleaner, safer and friendlier neighbourhoods with children policing their streets. Studies have shown the more traffic there is on the road, the less people know their neighbours so this theme was all about more people walking, talking to local shopkeepers and learning about their local area.
May 2007 focused on Carbon dioxide and air pollution reduction. Resources showed how many balloons of CO2 are filled on the average school run.
