Children's stories
This poem won first prize in the Walk to School Poetry competition we held a while back. I just love the way that the use of sounds makes me feel the seasons! If you'd like to see you poems or stories on the Walk to School website, please send them in!
WONDERFUL WALKING
by Charis MuirCrunch, crunch, crunch.
You step onto the soft white snow.
You slide on the ice, wahoooooo!
Down the street, around the comer and into, Spring
A warm breeze floats gently to your face.
You look up and hear the birds singing.
Round the bend, by the park, and up the hill.
The blossom is pink confetti.
You walk across the Common and into Summer.
The yellow sun beating down on you.
Heat swallows you up.
Your skin is a coppery brown
You step into Autumn
And look up into the trees.
The orange and golden leaves,
Rustle as they fall around your feet.
You say a 'Good Morning!'
To Shoba, the lollipop lady.
You open the gate with a squeak, squeak,
And, finally, you're at school!
