The first week of October saw the national launch of Walk to School Month with 'Count me in' events taking place in schools as far-flung as Southampton, Sunderland, Wolverhampton, Redbridge and Dalkeith.

Each school was set a 'target' number of minutes to walk, and then, on the day of the event, all children made a special effort to walk to school wearing a 'Count me in' t-shirt and timing their walk.
The minutes were then added up on a special Walk to School 'You did it!' totaliser (pictured) and there was a much-appreciated launch of the (biodegradable) 'Count me in' balloons.
