'WoW' Schools

How the reward scheme works

At the start of the initiative, every child who agrees to join the “WoW” scheme will receive a certificate as a way of recognising their commitment to the scheme.

On a monthly basis, badges are awarded to every child who has walked to and from school every Wednesday of the month as a way of congratulating them.

To maintain interest in the scheme, the design of the badge changes every month.

At the end of every year, schools who promote WoW receive a plaque for presentation in the school grounds.

To assist with WoW promotion in local schools, here are a few campaign ideas:

· Ask children to design a WoW resources: posters, wallcharts and to have on display in the school entrance hall

·Set interclass competitions, the class with the highest number of walkers in a month could win a prize

· Have a lesson or assembly on a WoW day looking at the reasons to walk to school regularly

· Draw a chart showing the change in the number of children walking to school during the month

· Ask pupils to prepare a play outlining the reasons for walking to school and invite parents and other pupils to watch

· Invite a local celebrity to walk to the school on a WoW day in support of the campaign

· Ask pupils to prepare a press release about their WoW program and as a class send it to the local paper, inviting them to cover the story
