Walk to School page for parents

Do you often drive your children to school in the morning or pick them up in the car in the afternoon?

Do you get stuck in traffic on the way?

When you eventually arrive, do you then have problems finding somewhere safe to park?

Some of the popular reasons why parents do not walk with their children are discussed on the Parents Frequently Asked Questions page: this offers some possible alternatives to the problems parents face.

Do you remember, your Walk to School?
One of our supporters, remembers his..
"My most vivid recollection of walking to school was when I was about 10 years old and living in Southall, West London. Every morning I would meet my childhood sweetheart at the corner of the street and carry her satchel all the way to the girls' school gate. In the afternoon, I would wait for her outside the same gate at 3.45pm and we would walk home together singing, "You were made for me" by Freddie and the Dreamers"

Let's stop the Walk to School from becoming something of the past!
Parents who drive short journeys to school can make up a large percentage of the rush hour traffic. Think of the noise, the pollution and the congestion that creates - not to mention the danger to pedestrians, especially children.

There are alternatives and you could be part of the answer to these problems.

Parents who walk, say it is worth it! Siobahn from Middlesex says:
'I have just found your site - fantastic!
I used to drive my little boy to school, it is about a 10 minute walk, but when I drove it could take 20 minutes, due to traffic and trying to find a parking space. We walk in whatever weather and it is a good way of having some quality time with your child. We can find out what he's been doing and it's very sociable. We now speak to and acknowledge other parents. We've got friendly with the lady with the dogs and we feel part of our community - it's also a good bit of exercise!'
